About The School of Sound

Tired of applying to schools only to find out the cost will put you in debt the rest of your life? Maybe you didn't have the grades to get in? If music is your life, but need options on where to go, check out Tree Sound Studios' School of Sound. The Atlanta recording studio is now offering an innovative alternative to expensive schooling for those who really want to learn the world of music, from audio production to individual instrument instruction, and more! Students can complete a 25 class / 10 week audio production program or take single classes at their own convenience. Classes are taught on topics ranging from music theory, audio production, music business, live sound production, tracking techniques, Pro Tools, SSL 4000g+, and more. By utilizing the SOS program, students have a chance to gain real world experience from music industry professionals.


To attend Tree Sound Studios' School of Sound you must apply and be accepted. Personal interviews are necessary due to limited space and to preserve the integrity and security of the renowned recording studio.

If your educational needs require a more one on one approach Tree Sound Studios' School of Sound also provides private lessons for a number of instruments.

The instructors for private lessons are all studio musicians who have worked with a wide variety of artists at Tree Sound. We have classes ranging from beginner, intermediate, to advanced. Whichever stage of playing you are in, we can help take you to the next level. Its $50 per hour $35 for a half hour lesson.

Vocal Coaching

Our Vocal Coaching will to take you to the next level in your vocal styling's as well as teach you how to deliver top quality vocals in a live setting. It will also teach you to set up the microphone for professional recording purposes. Our teachers are trained to teach you the dos and don'ts concerning your vocal instrument that will, not only take you far in your entertainment career, but will keep your vocal instrument safe and strong in the process.

DJ Class


DJ LessonsThis class focuses on all aspects of DJing, with a focus on sonic quality, gain staging, and troubleshooting. The student will learn how to: properly setup the equipment in a professional “club” scenario; how to be sure that they are getting the proper levels on each of the gain stages, eliminating feedback, distortions, and damaged equipment; how to properly operate and maintain equipment; how to recognize signal flow and troubleshoot quickly, as well as mixing and scratching instruction. This class is for all beginning to intermediate dj’s, any type of music, any type of rig.

Audio Production

Full Program

You can attend audio production classes in a couple of different ways; individually, or take the full 25 class / 10 week program.

If attending the full program, you will be able to take advantage of an extra hour after instruction is over to ask questions and work hands on, side by side with a Tree Sound Engineer. Further more, if you complete the full program, and the instructors feel that you are ready, you will be eligible for a Tree Sound Internship - the next step in building your career as an audio engineer.

Interview Process

The Tree Sound Studios' School of Sound program is selective and competitive. Students must apply and have an interview to be selected.

There is a non-refundable $25 fee to submit your application. Each person must go through a preliminary interview when signing up for the program. Personal interviews are necessary due to limited space and to preserve the integrity and security of the renowned recording Studio.

Pro Tools 101 - explaining the menus, the different windows, and controls

Pro Tools 102 - signal flow (busses, auxes, sub grouping and rewire). How to make a tracking template and tracking techniques.

Microphones 101 - This course will cover the basics of microphone type and design.

Microphones 102 - This course will cover the applications of microphone use from guitar, piano, vocals, drums, and more.

SSL 101 - SSL Basics - This course will cover the basics of the SSL G+ including the patchbay, signal flow, channel strips, and board modes.

SSL 102 - SSL Tracking concepts - This course will cover running a tracking session using the SSL. Key concepts include routing, processing, use of outboard gear, "plugging it all in", setting up cues, and documentation.

SSL 103 - SSL Mixing - This course covers analog mixing concepts on the SSL. Key concepts include automation, the SSL computer, groups, sub mixing, the SSL Buss Compressor.

Come learn with Tree Sound's owner himself. This will be an overview about basic recording techniques, from analog to digital, maximizing your time and the dos and don'ts in the studio. Not only will you learn the ins and outs of a recording session, Paul will teach how to "green" a studio and a touring band. After 20 years of being in the music industry, Paul has a unique perspective that will lead to discussion about the ups and downs of the biz.

Be coached by our seasoned recording industry A&R in posture, vocal control and training, stage presence, image consulting, choreography, media training and more. We will finely tune your strong points while bringing you up to par where need be on an individual basis.
